Mary Hughes Davis Robinson passed away peacefully on December 10, 2022 in Charleston, SC, after a long battle with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. She was 94 years old.
Mary is survived by her brother, Henry Hughes, of Richmond, MO; her son, David Robinson; daughter-in-law, Stephanie Robinson; and grandsons, Benjamin and Adam all of Charleston, SC. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Grimball Robinson.
Mary was born on November 10, 1928 in Richmond, MO. She moved to Charleston, SC in her early 20s, where she found a career in civil service with the Naval Shipyard. After her retirement she enjoyed volunteering at Charles Towne Landing and the South Carolina Aquarium. Mary was always eager to take a drive, especially if it involved time in nature or with animals. She was very active in her church, Saint James Episcopal on James Island where she sang in the choir and made many beautiful handmade items for their craft fairs over the years. Mary was known for making dolls and stuffed animals and many who knew or worked with her received gifts of these items over the years.
There will be no memorial service at this time.
Those who wish to honor her memory are asked to consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association or the South Carolina Aquarium.
