Mary Elizabeth Mellard

Mary Elizabeth Mellard, 73, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of the late William Lee Mellard, Jr., entered into eternal rest Monday, March 25, 2024. The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 3, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, Charleston, SC 29414.
 
Mary was born March 19, 1951, in Smyth County, Virginia, daughter of the late Clayborn G. Fields and Katherine Brewster Fields. She was raised by Lawrence Smith and Mary Brewster Smith along with their daughter Nancy Smith (Danny Bane). On August 28, 1970, Mary married William while he was stationed in Warrenton, Virginia. In October of 1971, they welcomed the birth of their daughter Ginger. Soon after, they moved to Charleston, South Carolina where she began working for McDonald’s. In June of 1976, they welcomed the birth of their son William III. She was always involved in many of her children’s activities from softball, tee ball Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and even the high school marching band, volunteering anywhere she could to help. She worked many jobs, from being a teacher’s aide at Stono Park Elementary school to working in the office at Piggly Wiggly # 28. 
 
She is survived by her daughter, Ginger Mellard of Charleston, SC; son, William Lee Mellard, III (Kerry) of Charleston, SC; Granddaughter Jo Marie Condon-Mellard of Charleston, SC; Nephew Larry Bane (Patty) of Bluefield, West Virginia; Neice Anna Bane Roten (Mark) of Bluefield, Virginia; Nephew Mac Bane (Jody) of Bluefield, Virginia; Sister-in-laws Jan Mellard Fisher and Denise Mellard both of Charleston, SC; brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
 
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and other family.
 
Memorials may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project and The American Heart Association.
