Mary Kathleen "Kitty" Jones Markham

Mrs. Mary Kathleen (Kitty) Jones Markham, 91, surrounded by her loving family, entered into eternal life on August 1, 2017.

Kitty was born in Charleston, SC on March 12, 1926 to the late Pearl Mae Knight Jones and the late Vincent Joseph Jones. She was a member of St John Catholic Church. She graduated from Bishop England High School in 1943. She enjoyed her time as a nurse's aide after high school. After a wartime courtship she married the love of her life, John Francis Markham, II of Pittsfield, MA on January 4, 1945.

Kitty dedicated her life to her family. Throughout her 72 years of marriage she was a loving and devoted wife. While raising nine children, she took precious little time for herself and generously gave the rest to support and care for her husband and children. She made it look so easy, filling the roles of family manager, cook, laundress, house-keeper, seamstress, nurse, tooth-fairy, party planner, educator, spiritual guide, confidante, and friend. She never seemed so happy as when the family was gathered together. She especially loved family games and sing-alongs.

A true servant of God, Kitty cherished her Roman Catholic faith. She was a guiding light to Christ in her quiet way, leading by example and service. She contributed generously of her time, talent, and treasure to parish and school functions and activities. Over the years, she has inspired family and friends with her devotion. Many asked for her prayers with the shared notion that she had a direct line to man upstairs!

Kitty is predeceased by her parents and siblings Dorothy Jones Wigger and Vincent B. Jones. Kitty is survived and cherished by her husband, John, and children: Kathleen McNeal, Patricia Patty Meitzler (Ricky), John Markham III (Gloria), Theresa Rountree (Claude), Joseph Markham, Thomas Markham, Charles Tony Markham (Lori), Kristen Middlebrooks (Jeff), and Delia Fabrizio (Gregg). She will also be dearly remembered by her 25 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

The family will receive friends at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL (2180 Greenridge Road, North Charleston 29406) from 6 -8PM on Friday August 4, 2017. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John Catholic Church (3921 Saint Johns Avenue, North Charleston 29405) at 10AM on Saturday August 5, 2017 followed by burial at Carolina Memorial Gardens (7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston 29405)
