Mary (Louise) Drislan Madden, 60, wife of James “Jim” Patrick Madden, Jr., of Goose Creek, South Carolina, went to meet her Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 11, 2024. Mary was born October 17, 1963, in Tokyo, Japan, daughter of the late John James Drislan Jr. and the late Eileen Nellie Beleski Drislan. She graduated from Bishop England High School in Charleston, South Carolina in 1981. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 1987 from the Medical University of South Carolina. On October 7, 1989, Mary married the love of her life, James "Jim" Patrick Madden, Jr.
Mary went on to be a registered nurse until the birth of her daughter, Serena Nicole Madden, whom she homeschooled from pre-school through high school. She was gifted musically, not only in her ability to sing, but also in her gift to play the piano by ear. In addition to being an avid reader, Mary was a dedicated scrapbooker, memorializing the life of her family in pictures and words. Mary also enjoyed swimming, pool volleyball, and games of all kinds. Some of her greatest memories involved family game nights, get togethers, and playing cards with her best friend, Judy Howey. Serena was Mary’s pride and joy, excelling academically as well as in the performing arts. Mary attended every production out of the sheer love of watching her daughter perform. Those who knew her will remember Mary as one who loved fiercely and had an amazing sense of humor.
Mary’s career in nursing worked well alongside her compassionate nature as a caregiver. She loved and cared for her remarkable parents, who have since gone to be with their Lord. Mary’s love and unwavering faith in the Lord was her life’s foundation and she was obedient to His Word. When He spoke to her to “Write What You Know”, Mary did as instructed. She was so excited to publish her book, which will be available August 5th.
Mary Madden is survived by her husband of 34 years, James “Jim” Patrick Madden and her daughter, Serena Nicole Madden of North Charleston. She is also survived by her siblings: Linda Cioffi (Jack) of Bronxville, New York; Joanne “Jodie” Drislan Bargesser Legg (Brian) of Hanahan, South Carolina; and John Louis Drislan (Dena) of Goose Creek, South Carolina. Also surviving are her nieces and nephews: Hayley Monica Bargesser, William Michael Cioffi, Jonathan Mackenzie Bargesser and Elizabeth Rose Cioffi.
Mary’s friends and family are invited to attend her funeral service on Wednesday, July 17 at 10:00 a.m. The service will be held at the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, located at 2180 Greenridge Road, North Charleston, South Carolina.
