Mary Pappas Lawandales, 94, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of the late Andrew Frank Lawandales, entered into eternal rest Monday, September 22, 2025. Her Funeral Service will be held Friday, September 26, 2025, in the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, 30 Race Street at 11:30 am. Burial will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday, September 25, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, with Trisagion Service at 5:45 pm. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Downtown Chapel.
Mary was born on May 24,1931 in Clearwater, Florida, daughter of the late Thomas George Pappas and the late Sevasty Lambrianos Marcotsis, She graduated in 1949 from Memminger High School. Her class was the last all female class at Memminger. Mary attended Palmer Business College and Brookdale College. She worked at New York Life, the Post & Courier in addition to civil service jobs with Internal Revenue Service, Homestead Air Force Base, the Center of Disease Control and Fort Monmouth before moving back to Charleston to retire. Mary served the church in many ways as a Sunday School teacher in her younger years and later as volunteer in the church library. She loved books and was an avid reader. Her greatest accomplishments were being a loving wife and mother along with the love and support she provided for her extended family and others she met during her wonderful life.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Debra Davino of Charleston, SC; two sons: Andrew F. (Dawn) Lawandales, Jr. of Canton, GA, and Thomas G. (Ruth) Lawandales of Alpharetta, GA; eight grandchildren: Thomas M. (Allison) Davino, Mary Ashley (Scott) Robinson, Eleni (Kevin) Cunningham, Amanda (Curt) Morrell, Staci (Michael) Whitworth, Laura (Mark) Casper, Elizabeth (Diego) Lawandales, Caroline (Joey) Herrington; twelve great-grandchildren: Hudson, Brooks, Hayden, Mason, Chatham, Crew, Cannon, Andrew, Bonnie, Maddox, June, Callan.
In addition to her husband Andrew, she was preceded in death by her daughter Sophia Andrea Lawandales, sister Joyce (Ted) Gianaris, brother-in-law; Elias (Betty) Lawandales; Stelios (Mickey) Lawandales, her sister-in-law Sophia (Pete) Demos.
