Mary Bailey King entered into eternal rest on June 6, 2013, after her courageous battle with cancer for some twenty-one years. She spent her final days at home surrounded by her family and friends whom she dearly loved.
She was the oldest daughter of William Robert and Mary Pinckney Bailey. She was predeceased by her parents and her former husband, Thomas Preston King, Jr.
She is survived by her son, Thomas Preston King III (Trey) and her daughter-in-law, Lydia Buxbaum King, and their girls, Alden(13) , Glynn(13), and Bailey(10); her daughter, Anna King Bailes, and her husband John, and their sons, Noah(7), Dylan(5), and Drew(3); her sister, Ann Bailey King; and sister, Trudy Sease and her husband, Earl.
Mary was a devoted grandmother, affectionately called Bami, and an aunt and great-aunt to children who so loved and admired her. She graduated from James Island High School in 1959 and subsequently Coker College in 1962. Her three decades of teaching Spanish included high schools in Camden, Greenville, and locally at St. Andrews HS, James Island Middle School, Fort Johnson Middle School, and James Island HS. She was a woman of great faith and was an active member of Saint James Church over the course of sixty years, most recently serving on its vestry and being inducted into The Daughters of the King. She traveled on numerous medical mission trips to the Dominican Republic, as well as Honduras, serving as a translator for the teams. She loved teaching Spanish to her grandchildren and volunteering at their schools. She was a passionate Cougar basketball fan, whose exuberant cheers will never be forgotten. She treasured her card games with her dear friends that spanned some forty years and will be remembered for her fierce competitiveness. She enjoyed knitting and loved teaching her granddaughter the art.
Her friends and relatives are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 10, 2013 in Saint James Church, 1872 Camp Rd, James Island, 29412, with interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at a reception in The Ministry Center following the service.
