Mary Jo Fulmore Liebenrood, 93, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, devoted mother, grandmother and widow of Arthur Edward Liebenrood entered into eternal rest on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at her home. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at the J. HENRY STUHR INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 3:00 pm, followed by a Memorial Service in the chapel at 4:00 pm. Interment will be private.
Mary Jo was born March 31, 1925 in St. Stephen, South Carolina, daughter of the late William Whiteman Fulmore and Ellie Boyd Fulmore. She graduated from St. Stephen High School and later from Columbia Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. In 1950, she married Arthur Edward Liebenrood. She and Arthur were married for 22 years until his death in 1972. Mary Jo devoted her life to God and her family. She was a life long member of Hibben United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant where she was a member of the Joy Circle. She loved being a nurse and providing the best patient care. One of her first jobs after nursing school was caring for children with polio in Monroe, NC. During her nursing career, she was also employed by Roper Hospital, Driftwood Nursing Home, Sandpiper and enjoyed private duty nursing as well. Her last job at Sandpiper was sales related, and she retired at age 75.
Jo loved being a mother; she was widowed at age 47 with 6 children and that time the oldest was 20 and the youngest was 5. She enjoyed cooking and gardening as well as traveling. After retirement, she visited Austria, England and the Caribbean. She gave her children the example of a strong work ethic, to never give up and to appreciate the simple things in life. She loved becoming a grandmother and enjoyed being a Nana to them all. She also loved her friends from Nursing School known as "The Class".
She is survived by her six children: Lynn L. Provosty (George) of Lumberton, NC, Jenny L. Bilder (John) of Mullins, SC, Louise L. Owens (Stuart) of Mount Pleasant, SC, Charles W. Liebenrood (Diane) of Clover, SC, Sylvia L. DeWolff (Doug) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Arthur E. Liebenrood of Mullins, SC; ten grandchildren: Ken Owens, Cameron Owens (Taylor), James Owens, Thomas Bilder, Julia Bilder, Lydia Bilder, Charles Liebenrood, Heather Myers, Elizabeth Williams, Luke Williams and one niece; Elizabeth F. Carroll.
Her family would like to thank her caregivers Helen Brown, Ethel Gibbs, Viola Paulin, Angie Johnson and Tina Grant. The family would also like to thank Transitions Hospice, Bill Wilson M.D., Angie McGoldrick, RN, Suzanne Harvie, RN, Tiffany Hills, RN, Ashley Wiley, RN and Cheryl Nault, CNA.
