Mary Carolyn Jernigan

Mary Carolyn Jernigan, 87, of Hanahan, SC died Sunday, April 15, 2012, peacefully at home.

Born July 12, 1924 in St. Stephen, SC she was one of three children of Lonnie Franklin Jernigan and Lottie Eve Keller Jernigan. She retired from Charleston Air Force Base as a purchasing agent with over 32 years of service and earned the highest civilian honor bestowed by the U.S. Air Force. She enjoyed residential real estate for 27 years after retiring from Civil Service.

She was an Elder at Yeamans Park Presbyterian Church. She was a Past Worthy Matron of Morning Star Chapter 121 in St. Stephen, SC, past member of American Business Professional Women's Association and North Charleston Business Professional Women's Association. She was a member of the Class of 1945 at Winthrop College where she played violin in their orchestra and a member of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. Her greatest joy in life was her family.

She is survived by her brother-in-law, Wilson F. Thrower of Hanahan, SC; nephews, L. F. (Buck) Thrower of Bonneau, SC and Jerry Thrower (Linda) of St. Stephen; and nieces: Lynn T. Dusenbury (Sam) of Conway, SC, Patty T. Reaves (Steve) and Carol T. Harkness (Johnnie), all of Hanahan; great-nephews: Robert Thrower (Angela) of Hanahan, SC, Rick Dusenbury of Conway, SC, Chris Dusenbury (Ryan) of Panama City Beach, FL, Danny Reaves (Cory) of Hanahan, SC, Patrick Reaves of Goose Creek, SC, Jeff Thrower of St. Stephen, SC and Aaron Harkness of Denver, CO; great-nieces: Kelley Williams (Chuck) of LaGrange, GA, Whitney Ortega (Jared) of Hanahan, SC and Jamie Cruse (Andrew) of Augusta, GA; great-great-nieces and nephews: Connor & Kirsten Williams of LaGrange, GA, Golden & Anderson Thrower of Hanahan, SC, Emily Dusenbury of Rockledge, FL, Hadleigh & Hayden Ortega of Hanahan, SC and Layne Reaves of Hanahan, SC. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Carol Yvonne Jernigan and Dorothy Jernigan Thrower, and niece Myrna Thrower.

The funeral service will be held at Yeamans Park Presbyterian Church, Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at 11:00 am. Interment will be held at 2:00 pm at St. Stephen Episcopal Churchyard. The family will receive friends in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road Tuesday, April 17, 2012 between 6:00 and 8:00 pm.
