Starts at 2:00 pm (Eastern time)
Mary Elizabeth Miller Hydrick, widow of Daniel Edward Hydrick III, passed away on October 21, 2026. She is survived by her son, Daniel Edward Hydrick IV (Julie) of Charleston; her daughter, Sarah Margaret Royall Hydrick Ogden (Tom) of New York City; and also two grandchildren, Lucy Royall Hydrick, and Cambridge Trott Hydrick…and Max, her Boston Bull Terrier.
She was born in Kingstree then moved to Pawley’s Island early in life. She grew up on Pawley’s Island and worked at the Tip Top Inn. She attended Winyah High school and later Palmer business college. She met the love of her life, a United States Marine, on a blind date and from there it was love at first sight. Together they built the first horse drawn carriage company in Charleston…The Charleston Carriage Company. They created a farm/ranch on Wadmalaw so the working horses had a place to rest. A fire and a hurricane later, they sold out and bought 25 acres of mountain in Fines Creek, NC. After losing her husband she moved back to Charleston. Those who knew her called her Saint or Queen and she was both and more.
The graveside service will be held at the Venning Road Cemetery, on Venning Road in Mt. Pleasant, SC at 2:00 on October 31….Halloween was her favorite holiday. A reception will follow the service at 3040 S Shore Drive, Charleston, SC 29407.
In lieu of flowers, give your momma a hug and tell her you love her.
Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel.
