Mary Ann Williams Holder

Mary Ann was born October 9, 1937, in Charleston, SC, the daughter of Arthur Lenwood Williams, Sr. and Belva Marcella Johnson Williams. At 14 years old Mary Ann's family moved to the small town of Mt. Pleasant, SC. She was one of 13 seniors graduating from General William Moultrie High School in 1956.
Mary Ann was married to her loving husband Charles Ray Holder, Sr. (deceased). Mary Ann and "Lefty" are survived by their sons Charles Ray Holder, Jr., of Mt. Pleasant and Allen Wayne Holder (Sheila) of Middleburg, Florida; and daughter Mary Lynn Holder Howard (Troy) of Hickory, NC; a brother Arthur Lenwood Williams, Jr. (Angela) of Summerville and a sister Belva Marlene Williams Seaborn (Bob) of Apalachicola, Florida; 3 granddaughters Cecelia May Holder, Anna Elizabeth Howard Grider (Tim), and Veronica Alaina Holder; 2 grandsons Phillip John Howard (Alexis) and Andrew Charles Howard; and 3 great-granddaughters Eloise, Hadley, and Harper Howard.
Mary Ann was a skilled floral designer She began her life-long career in her family's successful retail & event floral shop, Belva's Flower Shop, Coleman Blvd., Mt. Pleasant in 1972 until her retirement in 1998. When her parents died, Lefty and Mary Ann managed the family business. She was devoted as well as passionate about her work in the floral industry, loving it long past retirement days. She cared deeply for the people of Mt. Pleasant she repeatedly served for 40 years as if each were dear and close friends.
Mary Ann was a devoted and active member of Asbury-St. James United Methodist Church. As a young child, she attended Asbury and Asbury is where she married Lefty. During her membership, Mary Ann was an active member of the church.
Funeral services will be held at Asbury-St. James United Methodist Church at 754 Rutledge, Charleston, SC at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 23rd. Visitation will be on Friday, February, 22nd from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial may be made to Asbury-St. James UMC, 754 Rutledge Ave., Charleston, SC, 29403.
