Mary Ellis Smith Ford, 62, of North Charleston, SC, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, October 17, 2018. Her memorial service will be held Monday, October 22, 2018, in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road, at 12:00 pm. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Mary was born July 23, 1956 in Greenville, SC, daughter of the late Mahon T. Smith, II and the late Anne Pugh Smith. She was a retired Elementary School Teacher and a graduate of College of Charleston. She was a volunteer in the Intensive Care Unit at Trident Medical Center. Mary loved gardening, cooking, shopping and she expressed her generosity of spirit by giving presents. She enjoyed going to the beach, local festivals and football games. While growing up in Greenville she was a very active member of the Pendleton Street Baptist Church in Greenville, SC.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Ford of North Charleston, SC; daughter, Mary Abigail Fleming Speights (Paul) of Charleston, SC; two sons, Dennis Collin Fleming of Charleston, SC and Mark Caleb Gibson of Orangeburg, SC; stepson, Jason Wayne Ford (Bailey); three grandchildren: Charlotte Ellis, Hamilton and Seabrook Speights; brother, Mahon T. "Mac" Smith, III (Suzanne) of Charlottesville, VA; niece, Emily DesChamps and nephew, Matt Smith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her stepson, Nolan Ryan Ford.
