Mary H. Fletcher, 91, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Thursday, October 20, 2022. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, October 25, 2022, in the Christ Our King Catholic Church, 1149 Russell Drive at 11:00 am. Interment, Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Rd. The family will receive friends Monday, October 24, 2022, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel. There will be a praying of The Rosary at 6:00 p.m.
Mary was born November 26, 1930, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Thomas C. Holmes and the late Anna Gavin Holmes. She is the granddaughter of Irish immigrants and was proud to be 100% Irish-blooded. Married at a young age, she moved with her husband Frank and infant son Robert to South Carolina. Widowed as a young woman with three children, she began working as a Medical/Insurance Secretary at Durst Family Medicine, retiring after 30 years.
She was a graduate of J. W. Hallahan Catholic Girls High School in Philadelphia. She studied Psychology at Trident Tech in Charleston. Her early interests included being Den Mother to her sons’ Cub Scout Troup and shooting target archery with the family. She was named South Carolina State Champion for target archery by the National Archery Association in the mid-1960s. Later in life she traveled the world, taught bridge, grew beautiful roses, and enjoyed spending time with friends.
She was an avid member of Christ Our King Catholic Church, participating in the RCIA Catholic Education Movement and the Cursillo Renew Movement. She was the South Carolina Lay Director of the Cursillo movement for several years.
She is survived by daughter, Kathleen Fletcher of Mount Pleasant, SC; and two daughters-in-law, Denise Fletcher and Rebecca "Becky" Fletcher. She was proud grandmother to Amy, Gavin, Hayden and Reid, and great-grandmother to Fletcher and Gibson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank J. Fletcher; and her sons, Robert "Bob" G. Fletcher, and Michael G. Fletcher.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to The Salvation Army or Christ Our King Catholic Church (Mt. Pleasant, SC) .
