Mary Judith "Judy" Walsh Duke

Mary Judith "Judy" Walsh Duke, 81, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of Paul David Duke entered into eternal rest Friday, January 26, 2024 after a brief illness. Her death leaves a huge void in the hearts of her family and a large circle of friends.

Judy was born January 7, 1943, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late John Walsh and the late Elizabeth Wren Walsh.   She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Paul David Duke of Charleston, SC; two sons, Stephen Duke (Barbara) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Christopher Duke of Denver, CO; and five grandchildren, Rylee Duke, Owen Duke, Rachel Duke, Keira Duke, Oliver Duke.

Judy graduated from  Marywood Seminary in 1960 and Marywood University in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry. Upon graduation from Marywood, she began her career as a chemist at Hoffmann LaRoche where she met her husband and whom she would spend her life with. Then after having her two boys, Judy was a Special Education Teacher for many years at Tulsa Trail School, Hopatcong, NJ, and will be remembered for how she loved her family. 

Judy enjoyed singing in various choirs, including the Roche Chorus, Interfaith Chorus, Jersey City, NJ, and the chorus of Presbyterian Church, Dover, NJ performing the Messiah. 

She retired in 2004 to Charleston, after which Judy and Paul enjoyed traveling extensively with family and friends. Memorable trips included an RV trip across the US, river cruises, and an Environmental Expedition to Yellowstone National Park.  Judy accomplished traveling to all 50 states. She also enjoyed the camaraderie of The Citadel Class of 1964 functions. 

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, February 5, 2024, in the Christ Our King Catholic Church, Grace Hall, 1149 Russell Drive Mt. Pleasant, SC. Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell will be held at a later date. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
