Mary Goode "Goodie" Geer DiRaddo

Mary Goode "Goodie" Geer DiRaddo died peacefully on May 29, 2018. Services will be held June 9, 2018, at 11:00a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 98 Wentworth St., Charleston, SC, 29401 and officiated by the Very Rev. Michael Wright. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Goodie was a resident of Bishop Gadsden Episcopal Retirement Community in Charleston, SC since 1999 with her husband of 63 years, Rev. Joseph A. DiRaddo, who preceded her in death in October 2017.
Goodie is survived by her five children: Andrew Williams DiRaddo and Mary Kendall Tamlyn of Houston, Texas; Joseph Geer DiRaddo of Albuquerque, NM; Christopher Nicholas Anthony DiRaddo of Austin, TX; Margaret Goode Dethero of Florence, AL; and numerous grand and great grandchildren.
Goodie was born November 14, 1927 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of Andrew Eugene Geer, Sr. and Winifred Williams Geer. Her brother, Andrew Eugene Geer, Jr., preceded her in death in April 2018. Goodie attended Ashley Hall and graduated from Sweet Briar College in 1949. Following several years of international travel and service with World Council of Churches, Goodie pursued graduate studies at Columbia University. In 1954, Goodie was married to Joseph DiRaddo at Grace Episcopal Church in Charleston. During his active ministry the DiRaddos lived in multiple cities in New Jersey, South Carolina and Texas. In Texas, Goodie became active in the Southwest Craft Center, weaving on loom, teaching native basket weaving and providing demonstrations in weaving at the Mission Espada in San Antonio. Goodie and her husband were avid travelers visiting many foreign countries as well as annual stays at the family house in Nacoochee Valley, Georgia, where she was a loyal patron of the community cultural center. Goodie continued her love of crafts as a resident of Bishop Gadsden and was known for her baskets and wreaths from grapevines and angels from natural objects found on her walks. She also belonged to the Ladies' Benevolent Society, Colonial Dames and the Charleston Garden Club, for which she was the official photographer. In 2007 she authored the cookbook, Steaming in Charleston. Goodie was also an accomplished player of duplicate bridge, and achieved the rank of Life Master while a resident at Bishop Gadsden.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sautee-Nacoochee Center P.O. Box 460, Sautee Nacoochee, Georgia 30571. The family wishes to thank the staff of Bishop Gadsden, who surrounded Goodie with love and support during recent years.
