Mary Ingalls Côté, a gifted portrait artist renowned for her exquisite paintings and watercolors capturing the scenic beauty of the Charleston, South Carolina area, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026. Born on September 21, 1940.
Mary spent her formative years in the historic Old Village of Mt. Pleasant, where her deep connection to the local landscape helped shape her artistic vision. Her works vividly portrayed the charm and essence of Charleston’s surroundings, reflecting a profound appreciation for the natural and architectural beauty of the region.
Beyond her artistry, Mary was a devoted member of the Unitarian Church of Charleston, where she nurtured meaningful friendships and engaged wholeheartedly with her congregation. She also found enjoyment and companionship through her participation in a local book club.
Mary is survived by her loving daughter, Ashley C. Guilbert of Charleston, SC, who continues to carry forward her mother’s legacy. She took great pride in her grandchildren-Kaitlyn Guilbert, Samantha Guilbert, Jesse Earle, and Marina Crawford-who brought her immense joy. Mary also leaves behind her sister, Cynthia Cantu of Greensboro, NC, and niece Leslie Cantu.
Mary is preceded in death by her daughter Cynthia Earle (Jefferson Earle) and her son, Timothy Crawford, whose memories remain treasured in the hearts of family and friends.
A visitation to honor Mary’s life will be held on April 15, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at J Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road. This gathering will offer an opportunity for family, friends, and the community to pay their respects and celebrate the remarkable life of a beloved artist and friend.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
