Marybeth was born September 17, 1928 in Brooks County, Georgia, daughter of the late William Walker Lewis, Sr., and Beulah Pauline Shaffer Lewis. She grew up on a family farm and loved the outdoors and farm animals. Preceding her in death are her brothers, William Walker Lewis, Jr., Virgil Lewis and Albert Lewis, and two sisters; Martha Jane Wingate and Harriette Kirkland. She is survived by her beloved baby sister, Frances Williams of Quitman, Georgia.
Marybeth was the proud Mother of her children, Sondra C. King (Jerry); Ronda Cooper, both of Charleston, SC; E. Les Cooper (Wendie) of Moncks Corner, SC; Chris L. Cooper (Leslie) of Charleston, SC; Lisa C. Porter (John) of Sandy, UT; Jon S. Cooper (Shari) in Irmo, SC; and Jan W. Cooper (Cindy) of Leesburg, Ga; 28 grandchildren, and 89 great-grandchildren. Marybeth was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Emory Blane Cooper.
Marybeth was a happy person! She loved God, her family and her friends. Her faith in Christ and his Atonement was ever present, a testimony of Him and his Gospel. Many younger women called her their “Second Mother”! She loved to sew prom dresses for her girls, read, sing and play piano. She landed the part of Ruth, the matronly nursemaid in the Pirates of Penzance, at summer workshop while in her 50’s and loved every rehearsal and performance. She was a FABULOUS cook! A beacon of light and faith, she cherished her membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was a true Southern Lady, full of grace and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you hold your loved ones a little longer today and always. Families are Forever.
