Mary Jeane Byers passed away peacefully June 11, 2025 at the age of 96. She was a resident of Franke at Seaside in Mount Pleasant where she and her husband were among the original residents. She was born in Laurens, South Carolina in 1928 to Fred Samuel Boyd, Senior and Rosa Belle Spoon Boyd. She was the youngest of five children.
Mary Jeane was a devoted wife and mother. She became a celebrity when she delivered the first twin boys in the Laurens County Hospital in 40 years. A daughter and a son came a few years later. Her husband, Ralph, was employed in the textile industry and this required the family to make several moves. She was always there for her children as they adjusted to these new towns.
Music was Mary Jeane's passion. She had a unique Soprano voice and was well known at a young age for singing with musical groups and performing for various events. She recorded records of many of the popular songs during World War II. She was awarded a musical scholarship to attend Limestone University. She was always a member of her church choir and later enjoyed being a member of the Franke Chorus.
She enjoyed knitting, sewing, and playing golf and bridge with friends.
She is predeceased by her husband of sixty six years, Ralph Carl Byers, her son Daniel Boyd Byers, a brother and three sisters. She is survived by her three children, Sanford(Sandy) Byers of Folly Beach, Tony Byers (Dianne) of Isle of Palms, Anita Byers Hill (Edwin) of Statesboro, Georgia. She was blessed with four Grandchildren and seven Great-Grandchildren.
A private service was held in Charleston at the Historic Magnolia Gardens
