Mary Ann Kirwin Barnard, born in Neptune, NJ on June 11, 1939 died at home on May 13, 2018. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, May 21, 2018 in Christ Church Mt. Pleasant, 2304 North Highway 17, at 11:00 am. A reception will follow at the Burges Center, Franke at Seaside, 1885 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant. Arrangements by J. Mary Ann is survived by her husband of 55 years, David, her son Andrew and his wife Janet, and her daughter Ellen; her grandchildren Joshua, Jordan, Justin, James, Jessica, Jennifer, Jason and Jaxon Barnard; her sister Carol Fitzgerald (Jim), and her brother, Tom Kirwin (Jan).
Mary Ann was an educator for her first career, graduating from Immaculata University, and earning a Master's degree at the University of Delaware. Most of her teaching career was spent at Archmere Academy in Claymont, DE. Upon retirement, Mary Ann ran a successful interior design business for ten years. She was active in Newcomers of Mt. Pleasant, and served as a volunteer and mentor with East Cooper Habitat for Humanity. She sang in the choir at Christ Church and the chorus at Franke, as well as other local choral groups.
Mary Ann's life was spent caring for those who were ignored, struggling or alone. Her prayer was always for those who had no one to pray for them.
