Mary Lilla Abrams

Mary Lilla Abrams, 92, of Charleston, SC, widow of Robert Demmy Peiffer and Martin Abrams passed away Saturday, December 26, 2015. All services will be private. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL.
Lilla was born May 16, 1923 in Philadelphia, PA, the only daughter of John Wharton and Irene Wharton. Subsequently, she took the name of her stepfather, Guido Terranova.
She is survived by her son, Robert Peiffer and his wife, Susan Nepveux Peiffer of Daniel Island, SC; four grandchildren, Robert Wharton Peiffer (Dori) of Monclair, NJ, Gary John Peiffer (Kathe) of Vienna, VA, Earle Rowland (Lee) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Anne Trenholm Gratz (Luke) of Savannah, GA, and by ten great-grandchildren.
Lilla enjoyed a full life, living and traveling throughout the United States and the world as a military spouse, homemaker, and tourist. She loved learning about different cultures and no place was really foreign to her. She quickly adapted, whether it be to "honey buckets" in Japan, escargots in France, the Jersey Shore in Margate, the Sonora desert of Tucson, or any of the many other places that she lived. She was a superb artist; a renowned miniaturist, specializing in intricate scenes that dazzled with their details; and a voracious reader. She bubbled with enthusiasm, bringing joy to her family and friends. She was the epitome of "Live, Love, Dance" and the staff at The Palmettos of Charleston, where she spent her final years, always commented on her love of music and that she was "their dancing partner."
Lilla was also a very giving person, sharing her time and her funds with others, especially her organizations involving animals, art, children, and those less fortunate than she was.
To that end, it is requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent in her memory to one of two of her favorite charities, Communities In Schools of the Charleston Area, Inc., 1090 East Montague Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29405 or the University of Arizona Museum of Art, where she was a docent for many years, at P.O. Box 210002, Tucson, AZ 85721.
