Martin "Bubba" Bailey Cone Sr., a cherished resident of Bonneau, South Carolina, passed peacefully into eternal rest on Friday, June 12, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on December 24, 1947, in Charleston, South Carolina, Martin lived a life deeply rooted in his community and family, carrying forward the legacy of his late parents, Andrew Bailey Cone and Jean Elizabeth Williams Cone.
A devoted outdoorsman, Martin found profound joy in hunting and fishing, pursuits that reflected his enduring connection to nature and the land he loved. His passion extended to the excitement of NASCAR, where he was an enthusiastic spectator. Among his many commitments; Martin also held the distinction of being a Past Master at Caroling Lodge #375, demonstrating his dedication to fraternal service and leadership.
Upon honorable discharge from active duty in the US Navy, Martin took over his family's business as the Owner/Operator of Wilco Service Station, the last full service gas station in N. Charleston. Above all else, Martin cherished time spent with his family, a testament to the love and warmth that defined his character. He leaves behind a devoted circle of loved ones who will carry forward his memory with deep respect and affection.
Martin is survived by his beloved children: David A. Cone along with his wife Melinda, of Hollywood, SC, Martin Bailey Cone Jr. together with his wife Brandy, of Aylett, VA and Sonya Cone of Bonneau, SC. The family circle further extends to eight grandchildren: Kayla, Chris (Trey), Mackenzie (Jake), Hunter (Anna), Jonathan, Bryson (Alyson), Zachary, and Madison. His legacy is also carried on by four great-grandchildren: Violet, Chloe, Levi, and Chandler. Martin’s sister, Andrea Haddock, and her husband Eddie of Mt. Pleasant, SC, also survive him.
Martin was preceded in death by his dearly loved wife, Mary Elizabeth Cone; his parents, Andrew and Jean; his grandson, Dalton; and his brother, Johnny Cone.
The family will honor Martin’s memory with a Funeral Service scheduled for Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 1:00 pm at the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Northwoods Chapel, located at 2180 Greenridge Road, North Charleston.
