Martha S. Ulmer

Martha S. Ulmer, 87, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of Dr. Richard Edwards Ulmer, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 9, 2022. Her memorial service will be held Sunday, June 26, 2022 in Old St. Andrew's Parish Church at 4:00 pm. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley Chapel.

Martha was born September 26, 1934 in Hendersonville, North Carolina, daughter of the late Wayne L. Swanson and Martha Jane Snyder. Martha was administrator of the Governor’s House at Charlestown Landing for years. She was active in community music throughout her life including being a loyal church choir member and founding member of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra Chorus, initially The Singers Guild. She was past president of the Symphony Orchestra League, then the Women’s Association, and a founding member of the Symphony Designer House. Primarily, however, she was the phenomenal mother of five children. 

In addition to her husband, Martha is survived by her sons, David Ulmer (Karen) of Huntersville, NC, John Ulmer (Christine) of Charleston, SC, and Michael Ulmer (Andrea) of Charleston, SC; daughter, Katherine Myers (Cris) of South Beloit, IL; 10 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her son, Stephen Ulmer.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Martha's honor to the Charleston Symphony Orchestra League.
