Martha "Mimi" Anne Thornton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 20th, surrounded by loved ones, at her home in Mount Pleasant, SC. Services will be held Sunday, January 24th at 3:00 PM at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens on Mathis Ferry Road, at the mausoleum. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc.
Mimi was born on March 22, 1938, in Savannah, GA and lived a full life in numerous locations around the United States, ultimately settling in Mount Pleasant in 1977. She is known to friends and relatives for a tenacious enthusiasm for life, and always placing the welfare of her children and grandchildren ahead of her own. She enjoyed bingo, three-card poker, and being on the water, but mostly just spending time with family.
Mimi is survived by her four daughters, Autumn Steele, Ellen Richards, Laura R. Martin, and Nancy Parlman Heide; grandchildren, Aubrie Salmons, Becca Richards, Caroline Westover, Courtenay McDowell, Hailey Richards, Heywood Richards, Holly Steele, Kristen Fernandez, Michael Heide, and Ryan Martin; as well as great grandchildren, Addison and David Heide, Cataleya Fernandez, Laura Salmons, Abigail, Cadence, and Sydney Westover.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Anita "Ma" Bird; grandson, Christopher A. Heide; sister, Jean Brooks; brother, Lynn Lively; husband, Thomas "Jack" Thornton; and son, Victor Leith.
