Martha Louise Jarrell

November 9, 1922 — March 1, 2012

Martha Louise Rivers Jarrell, 89, formerly of Hanahan, SC, and widow of Barney Milton Jarrell, peacefully went home to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, March 1, 2012. The relatives and friends of Martha Louise are invited to attend her funeral service at J. HENRY STUHR INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in Stuhr's Northwoods Chapel from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.

Martha Louise was born November 9, 1922, in Augusta, Georgia, daughter of the late Heyward Rivers and Theresa Hensley Rivers. She was a long time member of Remount Baptist Church, where she loved serving and teaching in the Children's Department. She was also a member of the Alma Hunt Circle of the Women's Missionary Union. Martha Louise graduated from Mars Hill Junior College and then received her Bachelor of Nursing Education degree from the University of Georgia. Her greatest joys were her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are her three daughters: Shyla Shockley and her husband, Stan of Greenville, SC and their two daughters, Erica Shockley and Meredith S. Davis and her husband, Josiah, and their daughter, Selah; Shylene Jarrell of Asheville, NC and her four sons, Austin Howell and his wife, Lisa and their children, Millie and J.P., Ryan Howell and his wife, Monica, Alex Howell and his wife, Prairie Rose, and Wesley Howell, USAF; and Alice O'Brien and her husband, Glenn of Winter Springs, FL, and their son, John and his wife, Amber. She is also survived by her sisters, Nell Gannaway; Nancy Warren and husband, Jack; and her brother, Harold E. Rivers and wife, Noreen. She was preceded in death by her brother, Heyward Rivers, Jr. Martha Louise is also survived by her loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Flowers will be accepted at Stuhr's Northwoods Chapel, or memorials may be made in Martha Louise's name to Remount Baptist Church, 1520 Remount Road, North Charleston, SC 29406.
