Martha Ann Morris Heyward, age 99 wife of the late William Barnwell Heyward and formerly of Greenville, SC died at her residence on January 11, 2022 at Bishop Gadsden in Charleston, SC.She was predeceased by her sister Shirley Morris DuPree. She is survived by her four children: William Barnwell Heyward, Jr. (Patricia), Stephen Elliott Heyward (Janet), Charles Lee Heyward (Theresa) and Mildred McKee Heyward Reed (James). She is further survived by her twelve grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Martha Ann was born on December 25, 1922, the oldest daughter of Frank Page Morris and Mildred McKee Jenkins Morris of Greenville, SC. She graduated from Randolph-Macon in Lynchburg, VA in 1944. In 1948 she married William Barnwell Heyward of Charlotte, NC and resided in Greenville until his death.While living in Greenville Martha Ann was a member of Christ Church Episcopal where she served on the altar guild, taught Sunday School and was active in a prayer group. She and her husband served for five years on the Young Life Committee of Greenville. She was a member of the Junior League, the Tuesday Study Club, The Greenville Historical Society and served as President of the Assembly. After the death of her husband she moved to Charleston, SC and resided at Bishop Gadsden Episcopal Retirement Center. She joined St. Michael's Church where she was active.Funeral services will be held at the Bishop Gadsden Chapel on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Christ Church Episcopal Cemetery in Greenville, SC on Monday, January 24, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Resident's Assistance Fund at Bishop Gadsden; St. Michael's Church, 71 Broad Street, Charleston, SC 29401; or the charity of one's choice.The family would like to thank the many loyal friends who have extended years of love and support to their mother.Stuhr Funeral Home will handle arrangements.
