Martha Oleana Reed Bell, 94, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Monday, October 17, 2022. The family will receive friends on Thursday October 20, 2022 in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc. West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be held Friday, October 21, 2022 in the Old St. Andrews Parish Church, 2604 Ashley River Road at 11:00 am. No interment will follow.
Martha was born March 9, 1928 in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Harry Winslow Reed, Jr. and Marie Anastasia Wigmore Reed. She lived her entire life in Essington, a suburb of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Martha lived in Charleston since August of 1998. She was a restaurant worker for over 40 years, a church member and volunteer at St. John's Episcopal Church in Essington, then at Old St. Andrews Episcopal Church, and a member of many church groups and clubs.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra M Billingsley (John); daughter-in-law, Louise Lyons Bell; grandchildren, Tiffany B Frank (Jeff), Beth Axson (Scott Smith), and Stephen Billingsley (Shéna); great-grandchildren, Hayden and Brinley Frank, Carter, Cadyn and Harper Billingsley, and Tripp and Stephen J Axson; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, Martha was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Bell; son, Joseph Robert Bell; brother, Harry W Reed, III; and sisters, Marie L Centone and Edith E Osier.
Memorial donations may be made in Martha's honor to Crescent Hospice, 4401 Belle Oaks Drive, Suite 105, North Charleston, SC 29405.
