Martha Lucille Barnette

Martha Lucille Stone Barnette, 66, of North Charleston, gently entered the gates of Heaven Friday morning, June 24, 2011 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM, Monday, June 27, 2011 at Cooper River Baptist Church, 1059 Crawford Street, North Charleston, SC 29405.  Interment to follow at Dorchester Memory Gardens. 

Lucille was born October 29, 1944 in Waycross, Georgia to her late parents, Henry Matthew Stone and Martha Hutchinson Stone. Her career consisted of being store manager of Kerrison's Dept. Store in Northwoods Mall, on King Street and St. Andrews Shopping Center. After Kerrison's closed she managed Hamrick's in North Charleston for many years.

What she will really be remembered for was her wonderful, unconditional love for her family. She was the most loving, caring mother her children could have had. Her cooking skill was legendary, truly southern, and looked forward to at all of our family gatherings.

She was married to the late James Oglesby and together they raised three children who adored them. Later in life she met and fell in love with her perfect match, Richard Barnette. They married and shared many wonderful years together. Words cannot describe the love she showered on her grandchildren, Hanna Oglesby, Ashley Oglesby, Michael Oglesby and Austin Oglesby. She took so much pride in their accomplishments and attended all of their recitals, sporting events and school functions with total joy. God could not have blessed us with a finer mother, grandmother or wife, and she will be missed beyond description.

She is survived by her loving husband, Richard Barnette of North Charleston, her loving children: Sherry Scott of North Charleston, who provided her the most loving, wonderful care imaginable; Roy Oglesby of Hanahan, his wife Karen and their two children Ashley and Austin, and Mike Oglesby of Moncks Corner, his wife Tizzie and their children Hanna and Michael.

She is also survived by brothers: J.W. Stone of Cross, SC; Henry Stone of Douglas, GA; Kenny Stone of Douglas, GA and sisters: Wanda Mullinix of Easley, SC; Nell Taylor of Douglas, GA; Faye Roberson of Fitzgerald, GA and Carolyn Merritt of Douglas, GA.

She was predeceased by brothers: Arthur (Bobby) Stone, Hoke Stone, Melvin Stone and sisters: Becky Stone and Bobby Jean Stone.

Special thanks and our eternal gratitude to her friends, Dr. James Orcutt, Dr. T. Parker and all of the BMT nurses and staff at Roper Hospital.

Our family invites all of Lucille's friends to her visitation Sunday, June 26, 2011 between 6:00 and 8:00 PM at in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, North Charleston.
