Martha Elizabeth Tieman Jutzeler, 95 of Charleston SC, wife of the late Herman F Jutzeler Sr, entered into eternal rest on Saturday December 9, 2023. Her Funeral Service will be held Friday, December 15, 2023, in the Lutheran Church of The Redeemer, 714 Riverdale Drive, at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday, December 14, 2023 in J Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, from 5:00-7:00 pm.
Martha was born December 22, 1927 in Birmingham, Alabama, daughter of the late Chester Leonard Tieman and Roberta Lampp Tieman. Her younger years were spent in Jacksonville Florida but the family moved to Charleston where she finished her education at Memminger School in Charleston SC. After graduating she went to work at BellSouth in Charleston. Martha met the love of her life, Herman, when she was 15 years old. They knew then that they would spend the rest of their lives together. When he returned from WWII Naval Service they were married in Fairfield Methodist Church in Jacksonville Florida, Martha’s hometown on May 2, 1948. They made their home and raised their two children in Charleston SC. They were married for 68 years.
Martha was a charter member and Luther League youth advisor at Holy Comforter Lutheran Church and later a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. She was president of the Lutheran Women’s Circle, visitor of the sick and shut-ins, and in later years was a member of the Redeemer Cards and Coffee, Care Committee and Fun Timers. Martha & Herman enjoyed square dancing and were camping members of the Good Sam Club. They pulled their camper through much of the USA and parts of Canada with their great group of low country friends. Martha loved panning for gold in Helen, Ga. and taking their grandsons to their favorite camping spot in Maggie Valley, NC.
She is survived by her daughter Nancy J. Theiling (Dale) of Charleston SC; her son Herman F Jutzeler Jr (Lynn) of Charleston SC; 5 grandchildren, Dale Theiling Jr (Holly), Joey Jutzeler (Lindsey), Mark Theiling (Bethany), Jeremy Jutzeler (Peggy), Eric Theiling (Kristy); 6 great grandchildren, Will, Camden, Jonah and Mary Gray Jutzeler, Grady and Max Theiling. Martha is also survived by her sister Joy Taber of Dallas, Texas and Leonard Tieman of Arlington, Texas.
She preceded in death by her husband, Herman F Jutzeler Sr.; her sister Mary Anne Parker Brunner; and her stepfather Edward David Parker.
Martha’s family was her prized possession, particularly her grandchildren and great grandchildren which she held so close to her heart. She never missed an opportunity to show them all how she felt, whether from a sweet birthday serenade, candy during a visit, a warm hug or a prayer during any challenges whether big or small.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 714 Riverdale Drive, Charleston, SC, or to The Church of the Good Shepard, PO Box: 30909 Charleston, SC 29417, www.goodshepherdsc.com.
