Marshall August Wakat, Jr., MD, PhD, 75, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Phyllis Daniels Wakat, PhD died Monday, January 9, 2017. The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 17, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel. Burial services will be held at a later date in Colorado.

Marshall was born October 26, 1941 in Joliet, IL, son of the late Marshall A. Wakat and Frances Elizabeth Ricks Wakat. He received his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina and a PhD from the University of Michigan. He was a member of Radiology Associates of Roanoke, Virginia for over 30 years and the 2011 ITU World Age Group Sprint Gold Medalist in Beijing at age 70.

Marshall is survived by his wife of 53 years; two sons: Marshall A. "Gus" Wakat, III (Kristen) of Denver, CO and Marty Allen Wakat of Kailua-Kona, HI; two grandsons: Marshall A. Wakat, IV and Levon David Wakat.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
