Mark Stephen Ksenzak

Mark Stephen Ksenzak, 74, of North Charleston, SC passed away on March 2, 2023, at MUSC Medical Center in Charleston, SC following a challenging battle against multiple myeloma.

Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at J. Henry Stuhr Downtown Funeral Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC 29401.  A celebration of Mark’s life will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Bethel United Methodist Church, 57 Pitt Street, Charleston, SC 29401, with Reverend Susan Leonard officiating. A light reception in the Bethel family hall will follow the service.

Mark was born November 4, 1949, at Philadelphia Naval Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Joseph Francis Ksenzak and Glyn Snelgrove Ksenzak. He graduated from Bishop England High School in 1967 and The Citadel in 1972. Mark began his working life with Sea Pines Company on Hilton Head Island, SC followed by top-producing sales roles with The Gramophone and Harbor Town Clothiers.  He married Beverly Teague Coleman on November 10, 1979, on Hilton Head Island where they resided and worked until moving to Charleston in 1987. Mark spent his first two years back in Charleston as a sales representative with House of Wines of SC.  From 1989 to 2004 he worked for Max’s Men’s Store on King Street where he was consistently complimented for his exceptional customer service. Following employment as a sales consultant with Lexus of Charleston, he managed a local veteran’s club before fully retiring in 2010.

Mark worshipped at Bethel United Methodist Church where he served as a volunteer with the Lowcountry Food Bank and The Charleston Miracle League.  He was a member of American Legion Post #0179 and The Charleston Rifle Club.                                                                                                                 
Among Mark’s favorite things in life were, but not necessarily in this order: The Citadel; The Ark Lounge; bow ties; the Buffalo Bills; fine cigars; cooking gourmet meals; riding his racing bike to work; Billy Joel in concert; reading, especially historical nonfiction; scotch whiskey; crunchy Cheetos; golden Oreos; and above all, his family.

Mark is survived by his wife of 44 years, Beverly Teague Ksenzak of North Charleston, SC; sister Catherine Ksenzak of North Charleston, SC; brother Ralph Ksenzak of Charleston, SC; niece Sara Ksenzak Halperin of San Diego, California; stepdaughters Toni Coleman Carson and Shelley Kristina Coleman of Charleston, SC; step-grandsons Ian Coleman, of Charleston, SC, and Cole Carson of Charleston, SC; and step-granddaughter Parker Carson of Charleston, SC.
