Marjorie Venning Crane

July 28, 1918 — December 12, 2010

Entered into eternal rest on the evening of December 12, 2010, resident of Charleston, SC, Marjorie Dove Venning Crane, widow of first and second husbands Allison Cain Embrey and Wilson Howell Crane. The relatives and friends are invited to her funeral services in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 11:00 am. Interment, Rembert Cemetery, Woodrow, SC. Friends may call at Stuhr's at 10:00 am Wednesday, prior to the service.


Mrs. Crane was born July 28, 1918, in Hartsville, SC, daughter of Emmett Hahn Venning, Sr. and Martha Hill Venning.  She attended Belmont Abbey and Coker College, and was a Kappa Delta graduate of Queens University, of Charlotte, NC with a major in biology.  She worked as a receptionist for R.S. Dixon in NC and over 20 years as a Docent at the Calhoun Mansion.  She was a former regent and served on numerous boards of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Rebecca Motte Chapter, Colonial Dames, Daughters of the Confederacy, First Families of SC, board member of the Friends of the Snee Farm Foundation, Garden Club of Charlotte, NC and Charleston, SC, President of the Women's Group at the First Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, NC, President of the Women of the French Huguenot Church, and the French Huguenot Society, and the Rembert Church Cemetery Association, and numerous other committees.  Mrs. Crane enjoyed playing bridge with friends from Mount Holly, NC and Charleston, SC.


She is survived by two daughters, Marjorie Allison Zimmerman and her husband Herbert Weaver Zimmerman of Lancaster, Pa and Annette Venning Crane of Charleston, SC; one son, James Wilson Crane of Charleston, SC; two grandchildren Martha Allison Eismont and her husband Chad William Eismont of Charlotte, NC and Herbert Weaver Zimmerman, Jr. and his wife Jennifer Esposito of Roswell, GA, and four great grandchildren; a niece Victoria Venning Malak of Miami, FL and nephew Emmett Hahn Venning, III of St. Paul, MN, and first cousins Jean Lide Pope of Hanahan, SC, and Milton Brown of VA. She is predeceased by one brother Emmett Hahn Venning, Jr. and one sister Martha Venning Parker.
