Marion Brooks Parks, Sr., 83, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Mary Frierson Cosby Parks, and widower of Joyce Marie Carter Parks entered into eternal rest Thursday, May 12, 2016. His Funeral Service will be held Sunday May 15, 2016 in Charleston Baptist Church, 13 San Miguel Road, at 3:00 p.m. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday evening in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Marion was born August 8, 1932 in Jacksonville, Florida, son of the late Alton Brooks Parks and Mabel Thomas Parks. He was a Charter member, Chairman of Deacons and Finance committee, Treasurer of Charleston Baptist Church, and also served in the same capacity at Ashley River Baptist Church. Marion attended The Citadel and then served in the U. S. Navy for 18 months during the Korean War. After his discharge from the Navy he was employed by the Public Savings Life Insurance Company where he was awarded Agent of the Year (1955), Staff Manager of the Year (1956), District Manager of the year (1977), and Vice President of the Year (1987). Marion was instrumental in coordinating between the St. Andrews playground and with the Charleston County School superintendent to establish a baseball field at Springfield School where he coached for a number of years. Marion was a member of Charleston Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife Mary "Mayna" Cosby Parks; daughter, Kathryn Loudermilk (Michael) of Summerville, SC; six sons, Marion "Brooks" Parks, Jr., (Joanna) of Ontario, CN, James Parks of North Charleston, SC, Richard Parks, Steve Parks both of West Ashley, SC, Neil Parks (Joy) of Columbia, SC, and Jeff Parks of Charleston, SC; two brothers, Jerry Parks of Buford, GA, and David Parks (Barbara) of Georgetown, SC; fourteen grandchildren, and four great- grandchildren.
