Marion J. Padgett, 89, of North Charleston, died early Monday morning, June 20, 2016. His Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2016 in the Portside Baptist Church, 1179 Remount Road at 10:00 am with burial following at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road.
Mr. Padgett was born in Estill, SC, December 27, 1926, the oldest son of the late Daniel Perry Padgett and Marguerite Emma Sauls Padgett. He was a graduate of Allendale County Schools and a United States Army veteran, having served in the European Theater during World War II and honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He retired from Gulf Oil Company/British Petroleum in 1991 after 38 years of service as a truck driver hauling 50-gallon drums of petroleum products throughout the Southeast. He was an active and long-time member of Portside Baptist Church in North Charleston, where he had served many years as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.
Mr. Padgett is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Sandra Patrick Padgett; and two daughters, Traci Padgett Zerbst and her husband Paul of Hanahan, and Sandi Padgett Riddle and her husband Charlie of Goose Creek. He was a proud PaPa to three granddaughters, Amy Zerbst, Ashley Zerbst and Marina Riddle, and one grandson, Mason Riddle. Mr. Padgett is also survived by his two of his four siblings: Lillian Burkhead of Longmont, CO, and Harry Padgett of Boone, NC. He was preceded in death by his sister Helen Eldridge of Martinez, GA; and his brother Daniel Padgett of St. Charles, MO.
