Marion Elizabeth Ogier, 87, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Alton L.Ogier entered into eternal rest Tuesday, July 31, 2012. at her residence. The relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral services Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 2:00 pm in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL . Interment, Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday in Stuhr's Downtown Chapel between 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm.
Lib was born April 26, 1925 in Walterboro, South Carolina, daughter of James Henry Howard and Mamie Lee Drawdy Howard. She moved to Walstonburg, NC at the age of 4 and later to Charleston where she attended Courtney Elementary School, Rivers Junior High School, Memminger High School, and Murray Vocational School from which she graduated in 1945. She was employed by Southern Bell as a switch board operator for communications with naval hospital ships during WWII. She advanced to the business office as a service representative where she worked until starting her family in 1955. She owned and managed several rental properties in downtown Charleston. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church. Past memberships include the Ladies' Auxiliary Club (Secretary), Democratic Party (poll worker), Country Club of Charleston (Ladies' Nine Holers), Garden Club of Charleston, and South Carolina Historical Society.
Mrs. Ogier is survived by Elizabeth Ogier Barnwell (Beth), daughter, and her husband William H. Barnwell, III of Mt. Pleasant, SC and grandsons, William Hazzard Barnwell, IV and Grayson Ogier Barnwell and Cynthia Elaine Ogier Nye (Cindy), daughter, and her husband Jacob Carlyle Nye, III, of Charleston, SC and step grandsons, Fraser Carlyle Nye and Harris Bagwell Nye.
