The Rev. Marion "Mac" Wilbert McCoy, 77, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Sara McCoy passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2013. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR INC. WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL.
Rev. McCoy was born June 18, 1935 in Noble County, Indiana, son of the late Wilbert and Clara Buehrer McCoy. He was an ordained Minister of the Word and Sacrament with The Presbyterian Church (USA), and served as the Associate Pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Warren, PA, and was staff chaplain and CPE assistant supervisor with the Medical College of Virginia. Rev. McCoy served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years, with duty in DaNang, Vietnam, Iwakuni, Japan, Midway Island, Long Beach, CA, Whidbey Island, WA, Newport, RI, Jacksonville, FL, Coronado, CA, Oakland, CA, and Charleston, SC. He also served as the Director of Pastoral Care at Southside Hospital in Bayshore,NY and as Pastor of the Valley Stream Presbyterian Church in NY.
He is survived by his wife, Sara McCoy of Charleston, SC; his daughters, Elizabeth McCoy of Framingham, MA and Rebecca McCoy and her husband, Mark Merriner of Mathews, VA; his son, Edward McCoy of Charleston, SC; his sisters, Anna Watson of Avilla, IN and Dorothy Schultz of Fort Wayne, IN. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Maurice McCoy of West Lafayette, IN.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 20th at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be made in Rev. McCoy's name to "Hands of Christ," c/o Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1157 Sam Rittenberg Boulevard, Charleston, SC 29407.
