Marion Alvin Johnson, 98, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Catherine Othersen Johnson, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. His Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026 at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church at 1:00 p.m. A private inurnment will take place immediately after the service in the Columbarium. Refreshments will be provided in the hospitality room. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Marion was born July 19, 1928 in Pensacola, Florida, son of the late Alvin Johnson. Marion was raised by his Aunt Lula and Uncle Frank Guinot in Honor, Michigan. He entered the U.S. Navy at 20 years old during the Korean War. After his military service, he worked in Mortgage Banking and then co-owned MaAnco Homebuilders Company.
In addition to his wife, Catherine, he is survived by his son John Johnson (Gina) and daughters, Karen J. Hughston (Scott), Kim J. Jordan (Johnny), Shelly J. Westbury (David); grandchildren, Michael, Bobby, Jason, Brandon (Katie), Hannah (Jose), Brittany (Thomas), Kinsey, Bradley (Kelsey), and Baylee and great grandchildren, Rowan and Alice. In addition to his parents, Marion was preceded in death by his son, Brian Johnson, his grandsons Scott A. Hughston, Jr., and Chris Johnson and sisters Dorothy and Lucille as well as two stepbrothers Jim and Tom Shinburn.
His absence has left a huge hole in all our hearts and he will be forever missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marion's memory to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, 405 King Street, Charleston, SC 29401.
