Marilyn "Sugah" Smith Stehmeier

July 6, 1931 — March 26, 2022

Marilyn "Sugah" Smith Stehmeier, 90, of Charleston, was called home by the Lord on March 26, 2022. She was born in Charleston on July 6, 1931, and lived there her entire life.

Marilyn will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. She leaves behind her husband of 70 years, Herman W. Stehmeier; her children: Kathie Kimsey of Duluth, GA, Cheree Thomason (Dr. Mack Thomason) of Greenville, SC and William "Bubba" Stehmeier Jr. of Charlotte, NC; and six grandchildren: Faithe Kimsey, McKee Thomason, Katie Thomason; Summer Stehmeier, Kimi Stehmeier and Taylor Stehmeier.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, DeWitt Talmadge Smith and Dell Smith Rogers; her son-in-law, Dr. Bo Kimsey; and her grandson, Chas Thomason.

We are blessed with the thought that as she entered heaven, Marilyn was rejoicing in seeing her Lord and Savior along with her sisters and brothers-in-law. She was a longtime member of St. Johannes Lutheran Church, where Marilyn could be found assisting with the Tea Room or ministering through food and fellowship. She was an active Shriner's wife being a member of the Omar Greeterettes, and enjoyed many fun times hosting parties in their home. Marilyn was a secretary at First Baptist Church School where she enjoyed helping the faculty, staff, and students. All that knew Marilyn, knew of her love for the Lord, her family, her church, cooking, a good joke and her warm hospitality.

Marilyn was often heard saying, "I'm Charleston born and Charleston bred and when I die, I'll be Charleston dead."

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 in the St. Johannes Lutheran Church, 48 Hasell St at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends Wednesday in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc. Downtown Chapel from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Interment, Bethany Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Johannes Lutheran Church, PO Box 31927, Charleston, SC 29413.
