Marilyn Hutto Smith, aged 78, devoted widow of Billy Roberson Smith, Sr. and loving mother to Robbi, Lorilyn, and Angela, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2017, at her home in Hollywood, SC, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, December 30, 2017 at J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, at 11:00 am. The interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery, Orangeburg, SC, at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends Saturday in Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel beginning at 10:00 am.
Marilyn was born May 10, 1939, in Holly Hill, SC, daughter of the late Paul E. Hutto and the late Marietta Haigler Hutto. She attended Columbia College where she earned a B.A. in Early Childhood Education and Business. Marilyn was a retired kindergarten teacher at Cheerful Cherubs and a former secretary at Main Street United Methodist in Greenwood, SC. She was a member of the Sertoma Club, and a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Hollywood, SC, where she also sang in the choir. Marilyn loved to garden, sing, and dance, and she was very active in her neighborhood's welcome and social committees as long as she was able.
She is survived by her two daughters, Lorilyn Smith (Jim Wong) of North Augusta, SC, and Angela Smith of Charleston, SC; a son, Robbi Smith of Simpsonville, SC; a granddaughter, Tiffany Smith (Josh Brown), and three great-grandsons, Landon, Jaxson, and Mason, all of Simpsonville, SC; cousins Larry Babe Hutto (Gerri) of Edisto Island, SC, and MacReta Kennedy (Butch) of Pendleton, SC; her brothers-in-law, Perry, Phillip, and Foy Smith; a number of other relatives and many close friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wesley Memorial Church (5412 Highway 165, Hollywood, SC 29449), the Lowcountry Senior Center (865 Riverland Drive, Charleston SC 29412), or to the Alzheimer's Association.
