Mrs. Marilyn Rae DeLand Lipscomb of Mt. Pleasant entered her Father's glory on Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, following a brief stay at Charleston Hospice Center in Mt. Pleasant, where she was surrounded by her family. Born April 18, 1943, in Key West Florida to the late Mr. James R. DeLand Sr. and Mrs. Bess Pennington DeLand, she was a graduate of Key West High School where she was member of the precision dance team called the Conchettes. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Florida State University pursuing a life-long calling of caring for others through her career as a registered nurse. She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Calvin Duane Lipscomb, with whom she also owned and operated the Driftwood on the Ashley nursing facility. And her son, Calvin Duane Lipscomb Jr., daughter-in-law Karen Lipscomb of Lakeville, Minnesota; daughter Mrs. Ashley L. Wendell, son-in-law Jason of Selma, Texas; and daughter Mrs. Jocelyn L. Everson, son-in-law Jason of Lake Wylie, South Carolina. She was a beloved "Grancie" to her grandchildren: Amelia and Faith Lipscomb; Zachary, Joshua and Joseph Wendell ; Liya and Mary Elizabeth Everson. Also, brothers Merle DeLand of Lakeland, Florida; James DeLand, Jr. and sister-in-law Rose of Edison, New Jersey; and sister Edna Ramsdell and brother-in-law Dan of Jacksonville, Florida; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was an active member of the Isle of Palms First United Methodist Church for 22 years where she had a passion to share God's word by leading Bible studies and serving in many capacities to glorify God. It was said that her ministry and service went outside the doors and beyond the shores. She was a majority member of Key West Assembly No. 13 of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, a leadership and service organization for girls based on Christian principals. For more than 25 years she dedicated her life to Summerville Assembly No. 28 as Mother Advisor. She also served the Grand Assembly of South Carolina as a Senior Grand Executive Committee for almost 14 years. She is known and loved by hundreds of Rainbow Girls and Adult workers worldwide for her generous spirit, Christian example, and love of worship music. She was an active member of the Summerville Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 143. where she is an honorary lifetime member. Her life was a living testimony of the tremendous love of God and evidence of the work of His amazing grace. J. HENRY STUHR, INC, MT. PLEASANT CHAPEL is serving the family.
