Marie-Rose Labasse Newton

April 5, 1923 — December 13, 2013

Marie-Rose Labasse Newton, of Charleston, SC, wife of W. Bruce Newton, Jr., M.D., entered into eternal rest Friday, December 13, 2013. Her Rosary and Prayers of Final Commendation will be held Sunday, December 15, 2013, in J. HENRY STUHR., INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 232 Calhoun Street, at 4:00 p.m. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. in Stuhr's Downtown Chapel.

Mrs. Newton was born in Gentinnes, Belgium, daughter of the late Sylvain Emile Lebasse and the late Celinie Dubois Lebasse. She earned her degree from the Academie des Beaux Arts in Belgium and was a member of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist.

She is survived by her husband of Charleston; children: Denise Avera, Suzanne Shuler, Bruce Newton, Philip Newton, Annette DeVore and Paul Newton; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Marguerite Knisely. She was predeceased by a brother, Albert Labasse.
