Marie C Couch, 92, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of Donal Paul Couch, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, November 16, 2022. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel.
Marie was born September 19, 1930 in Martinsville, Virginia, daughter of the late James Oscar Campbell and Alma Blanche Martin. After attending college at Johnson Bible College in TN, she moved to Charleston with the JC Penney Co. and was in charge of window dressing and advertising at the new King Street location. It was in Charleston that she met her future husband, Don, when they were both living in boarding homes down by The Citadel. They married in 1954 and she became a homemaker. Marie worked on and off for her husband's construction company and later was a manager of The Yard Child in downtown Charleston. Marie always loved gardening, cooking for family and always had enough food to share with the extra kids who happened to be at their home at dinner time. Many a Citadel cadet could have a fine meal at the Couch house. She was an avid baker and was known for sharing her pies, cakes and cookies with family, friends and neighbors. Marie was a wonderful, loving grandmother- completely dedicated to her family and always put others first.
In addition to her husband, Marie is survived by her daughter, Robin Marie Brown (Michael Alan) of Fernandina Beach, FL; sons, Michael Dean Couch of Charleston and James Timothy Couch of Australia; 5 grandchildren- Heather Rutkowski, Bryan Couch, Ryan Brown, Nicholas Brown and Michaella Brown; and 6 great grandchildren- Mackenzie Hill, Killian Hill, Ryan Rutkowski, Lachlan Rutkowski, Finnigan Weathersbee, and Sylvia Brown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Donal P. Couch, Jr.
Memorial donations can be made in Marie's memory to The Ronald McDonald House of Charleston.
