Marguerite Lawrence Phipps

March 31, 1945 — July 6, 2013

Marguerite Lawrence Phipps, 68, of Charleston, SC, widow of Donald Edward Phipps, Sr., passed on in peace with her family by her side the morning of Saturday, July 6, 2013. Her funeral services will be held in The Cathedral Church of St. Luke and St. Paul, Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. Interment, Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in J. HENRY STUHR INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL at 1:00 p.m. Marguerite was born March 31, 1945 in Charleston, South Carolina, the daughter of the late Cambridge Trott Lawrence and Marguerite Wyndham Hood Lawrence. She attended James Simmons Elementary and graduated from Rivers High School in 1963. Marguerite was married to the late Donald E. Phipps April 23, 1967. She was very active in the Y-teens and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was confirmed into The Cathedral of St. Luke and St. Paul.Marguerite was employed by R. B. Comar, Inc., a Customs House Broker and Freight forwarder in 1965 and continued to work for the company after being purchased by Bevon International. Wanting to further her experience in the industry, she was later employed by Steet Brothers, Inc., a local steamship line agent in the import department. She again rejoined after being re-organized Dickinson, Mikell and Comar, Inc., formally R. B. Comar, Inc. and remained there until 1990 when she retired to take care of her elderly mother.In 1994, Marguerite owned and operated Carolina Grooming, a pet grooming salon, until 2006. She definitely found her true calling in taking care of pets, small and large. She loved each and every one of them and they loved her in return. She had a true love for animals since early childhood and it showed throughout her life. She leaves behind to carry on, her daughter, Kimberly Lawrence Phipps and five grandchildren, Kymberly, Kristina, Devin, Raven and John Adam. She is predeceased by her son, Donald E. Phipps, Jr.. Memorials may be made to Pet Helpers, 1447 Folly Road, Charleston, SC 29412 or to the Charleston Animal Society, 2455 Remount Road, North Charleston, SC 29406.
