Margaret Ann Williams

January 19, 1920 — March 2, 2014

Margaret Ann Shaw Williams, a longtime resident of North Charleston, SC, passed away peacefully from natural causes at the age of 94, on Sunday, March 2, 2014. Her family was at her side at the time.

Family and friends are invited to attend her funeral service in Friendship Baptist Church, 5032 Lackawanna Blvd., North Charleston, on Tuesday, March 4, 20014, at 1:00 pm. The Reverend Zane Brown will officiate. Interment will follow at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in J.HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Rd., on Monday, March 3, 2014, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Born on January 19, 1920, in Marion County, SC, Margaret was the daughter of the late Charles W. Shaw and the late Leona Richardson Shaw.

Margaret moved to North Charleston, SC, in 1940 and worked at the cigar factory in downtown Charleston. She met the love of her life, Lester (Zeke) Williams, and they were married on January 5, 1942. He preceded her in death on May 10, 1994.

Until shortly before her death, Margaret was an active member of Friendship Baptist Church since joining in 1958.

In North Charleston, her door was always open where everyone that entered got a hug, a glass of sweet tea and something good to eat whether they were hungry or not. Margaret will be remembered for many things including her delicious southern cooking. More importantly, however, was her dedication to her family.

She is also preceded in death by her son, Glenn; a granddaughter, Marcey Jean Taylor; and seven siblings, Rebecca Shaw Wiggins, Howard Shaw, Clarence Shaw, Charles Shaw, James Shaw, Sadie Poplin and Esther Ganshirt.

Margaret will forever be remembered by her devoted children, a son, Linwood (Debra) Williams of Mt. Pleasant and a daughter, Darla Jean Taylor (Mike Karriker) of Moncks Corner; treasured grandsons, Nicholas (Lauren) Williams of Mt. Pleasant, Ashley (Ann) Taylor and Matthew (Erin) Williams, both of Charleston; and five great-grandchildren, Nicholas Jr., Marcey Lee, Denton, Sydney and Penelope.

She was also the beloved sister of Frank (Bonita) Shaw and Barbara Brown of Moncks Corner, SC, Betty Parker of North Charleston, SC, Eleanor (Frank) Martin of Sumter, SC; and sisters-in-law, Janie Shaw of Goose Creek, SC, Francis (David) Low of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Gertrude Williams and Ruby (Emmett) Pagett of North Charleston, SC, along with many beloved nieces, nephews and lifelong loving fiends, who were all blessed to know her.

The family would like to thank the staff at Roper Hospice for their kindness and support during this difficult time.
