Margaret Thompson Kelly Towles passed into the presence of her Lord on Monday, September 24, 2012. She was born March 20, 1928 in Tampa, Florida, she had one older brother but was the oldest of three daughters of the late Middleton Mishoe Thompson and Martha Eunice Brady Thompson.Mrs. Towles was baptized and was a charter member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. She served in many capacities at the Church including President of the Women of the Church, taught Sunday School and sang in the Adult Choir for many years. Her faith kept her strong and provided comfort during her entire life.Mrs. Towles was a graduate of St. Andrew's Parish High School, where she received the Doran Award and the superlative honor as the most athletic senior girl for playing basketball. The Rockett's basketball team was District 8 Champions twice while she was a member of the team. She enjoyed other sports including softball, bowling and especially roller skating. She was a Girl Scout Leader and enjoyed teaching the Brownie Scouts when her daughters were young.During high school and after graduation, she worked full time for Southern Bell Telephone andTelegraph Company until her retirement as a plant assigner in 1983. She was a Life Member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and was President in 1985. She enjoyed camping cross-country visiting relatives and friends from coast to coast. She was a member of the "Low Country Good Sams Club". She also enjoyed traveling with Top of the Line Tours, especially to Lancaster, PA and the Amish Country. She was a member of the Wappoo Wigglers and Belles and Beaus Square Dance Clubs where she held several offices. She will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by two daughters, Martha Ann Kelly and Kathleen Kelly, one son, Robert Kelly, and two grandsons, Charlie Hill and Martin Hill, all of Charleston. She is also survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Mary and William Hilson of Charleston. She has many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and friends that she loved very much. She also wanted us to thank Jack and Gloria Flanders, a special couple in her life that brought her many years of friendship and love and countless hours of joy square dancing, traveling, camping and playing board games. Also a special thank you to Bill and Eloise Beverly for the many years of love and support and the fun times they shared with her, especially playing International Joker. She was predeceased by her brother Alfred Brady Thompson, her sister, Berta Ruth Thompson Crosby, Harold Leland Kelly, her first husband of 38 years, and her beloved Kirkland Johnstone Towles, her second husband of 14 years.The relatives and friends of Mrs. Towles are invited to attend her funeral service to celebrate her life on Friday, September 28, 2012 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 712 Wappoo Road, West Ashley at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens on Highway 61.
