Margaret Dalton Stephens

Margaret Dalton Stephens, 87, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Wacon Laurel "W.L." Stephens, Jr. died Wednesday, July 13, 2016. Her Funeral Service will be held Monday, July 18, 2016 in the St. John's Lutheran Church, 5 Clifford Street at 11:00 a.m. Interment, Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun St.

Margaret was born December 17, 1928 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late Henry Preston Dalton and Helen Pieper Dalton. She enjoyed painting and was awarded a full scholarship which she declined for her other love, W.L. She was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her son, W.L. "Steve" Stephens, III of Charleston, SC; two daughters: Linda Stephens of Charleston, SC and Nancy Goettel (David) of Murrells Inlet, SC; three grandchildren: Stephanie Dorsey (Frank), Christine Goettel, and Richard Goettel; one great-granddaughter, Laurel Dorsey; two sisters: Betty Ann Lemacks and Bobbie Driscoll (Gerald); and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband W.L. of nearly 60 years, she was predeceased by her sisters, Jean York and Evelyn Todd.
