Margaret "Peggy" M. Rugheimer, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Edgar W. Rugheimer, Jr., died on August 28, 2015, at her home after a brief illness. Her Graveside Service will be held in Magnolia Cemetery on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends Saturday, August 29, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Born July 27, 1929, in Charleston, S.C., she was the only child of Roland and Julia Chamberlain Minnis. Peggy graduated from Memminger High School and Converse College. After college Peggy began a career with the South Carolina Department of Social Services in Charleston where she was initially a case worker on the sea islands and became fluent in Gullah. In the simple times of the 1950's, the DSS office was in the Old Citadel on Marion Square. Peggy once received a letter from one of her case clients addressed only to Miss Peggy on the Green. She retired as a Social Services senior supervisor after thirty two years of service. In the late 1970's, Peggy was instrumental in establishing Goodwill Industries in Charleston and served on its first board of directors.
She is survived by first cousins Ray Minnis of Ridgeville, S.C. and Judy Minnis Brock of James Island, S.C.
