Margaret Madsen Whitaker ("Peg") was born January 10, 1921, in Charleston, SC, son of the late Clarence Louis Madsen and Adelheit Mehrtens Madsen. She died on January 1, 2018 after a brief illness. She graduated from St. Johns High School and the College of Charleston, and earned her doctorate in Education from New York University. Dr. Whitaker taught for twenty years in the Great Neck, New York, schools and rose to the position of principal of an elementary school in Great Neck.
She was preceded in death by her husband, E. Benner Whitaker, her daughter, Clare Elizabeth Whitaker, and her brother, Robert Allen Madsen. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Robert Peter Madsen, Lucy M. Guglielmino, and Suzanne M. Tuten; Rhett Bearden, Amanda Reid, Joseph Guglielmino, Margaret Perez, Andrew Madsen, and Anne Madsen; and Casey Bearden, Matthew Reid, Leonardo Guglielmino, Mia Perez, Benicio Guglielmino, Liliana Perez, and Luciano Guglielmino. She is also survived by two cousins: Richard McLean and Neil McLean.
