Margaret E. "Mama" McCarthy, 96, wife of the late Michael P. McCarthy of Charleston, SC entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 96 years young.  The relatives and friends of  Margaret McCarthy are invited to attend the celebration of her life on Friday, January 21, 2011 in J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL at 2:00 p.m. Entombment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends at the Mount Pleasant Chapel one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Mrs. McCarthy was born on December 29, 1914 in Round O, South Carolina, daughter of the late Ivy Herndon and Anna Willis Herndon.  Margaret was a true Southern Lady adored and loved by all. She loved the Lord, reading her Bible, her family, friends, helping others, and fishing. She also enjoyed cooking and together with her husband, founded and ran the Sandbar Restaurant on Folly Beach. She is survived by her son, Michael P. McCarthy, Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth, and her daughter, Marlene Hanjes, and her husband, Kenneth; four granddaughters, Fonda Goodwin (Ken), Theresa Price (Bill), Kathy Rodgers (Roger), and Jeana Blackwood (Jeri); eight step grandchildren, Robert, Thomas, Bill, Victoria, John, Wilson, Whilden and Sadie; five great-grandchildren, Michelle, Kenny, Amanda, Michael and Brandon; and four great great-grandchildren, Logan, Raife, Claire and Bradin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael P. McCarthy and her sisters, Bessie Davis and Ethel Kinard. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be sent to a charity of one's choice in her memory.
