Margaret Jones Martz, 96, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Lyle Freed Martz entered into eternal rest Tuesday, October 3, 2023. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Margaret was born October 1, 1927, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, daughter of Samual A. and Mary Jones.
Mrs. Martz graduated from Pennsylvania State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, member of Delta Gamma Sorority. Margaret lived in Charleston from 2008 to 2023. Her favorite sport was golf and she designed and made all her own clothes. Her husband, Lyle Freed Martz, also graduated from Pennsylvania State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Fuel Technology and worked with Westinghouse renovating electric power plants. Mr. Martz was an inventor with numerous patents that are available online. Margaret's son, Randolph Freed Martz, graduated with a degree in architecture from Carnegie-Mellon University and has designed more than one hundred buildings in and near Charleston and in five other states. Randolph has also renovated several hundred historic buildings.
Margaret is survived by her son, Randolph Freed Martz; and nieces and nephews: Kathleen Martin Montgomery, William Martin, Kent Martin, David Martz, Pamela Martz Sulkowski, and Karen Martz Croce.
She was predeceased by her sister, Doris Martin; and brother, Samuel E. Jones.
