Margaret Crosby Martin

Margaret Crosby Martin of Hollywood, South Carolina, wife of Walter Dewey Martin, Jr. entered into eternal rest Wednesday, April 5, 2017. During her lifetime she celebrated her "39th" birthday 49 times. Her Funeral Service will be held Saturday, April 8, 2017 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC. DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 232 Calhoun Street at 10:00 a.m. Interment, Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Saturday one hour prior to the service in the Downtown Chapel.

Margaret was born September 13, 1928 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late Martin Jacob Crosby and Ada Kinard Crosby. While her given name was Margaret, she was always "Poggy" to her friends and "Geemomma" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Margaret was a talented seamstress. She could walk down King Street in her early years, see a dress in the window and make it herself. Her Halloween costumes were always original and she made many beautiful smocked dresses. Margaret was also an accomplished artist. She was always so humble about her talents but she has left many beautiful watercolors that will be treasured by her children and grandchildren for years to come. Another passion Margaret enjoyed was making porcelain dolls with her good friend Mrs. Eunice. Her family vacations for many years included a week at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia. Margaret loved to cruise and took many over the years, with the entire family taking a cruise together on their 50th Wedding Anniversary.

The one thing Margaret absolutely loved the most was getting together with family and enjoying good food. Whether it was a special occasion or a spontaneous get together. As the years passed, Margaret would hold cooking school once a year to pass down her special nuances of her dressing and gravy to the grandchildren. Margaret was a member of Northbridge Baptist Church for over 40 years. She will be forever greatly missed

Margaret is survived by her high school sweet heart and loving husband of 67 years; three daughters: Jan M. Putney (Floyd) of Johns Island, SC, Marta M. Short (Clifford) of Covington, GA, Torey M. Warren (Jerry) of Charleston, SC; one son, Walter Dewey Martin III (Kathleen) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; nine grandchildren: Meredith, Lauren, John (Lee), Emily (Aaron), Allison (Josh), Matthew (Katie), David, Collins, Waltie; seven great-grandchildren: Ella, Kate, Austin, Dillon, Ryder, Cooper, Laurel; sister, Erline Crosby of Charleston, SC; and brother, Bing Crosby (JoAnn) of Charleston, SC.

Margaret was predeceased by her two sisters: Mildred C. Wiggins and June C. Scott; and granddaughter, Hannah.
