Margaret Owens Johnson, 83, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of Garlon T. Johnson and widow of Merlin Walker Burbage, entered into eternal rest Monday, May 26, 2014. Her Funeral Service will be held Thursday, May 29, 2014 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC. WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at 1:00 pm. Interment, Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel.
Margaret was born March 11, 1931 in Barnwell County, South Carolina, daughter of the late Jeff Hair Owens and Mary Dyches Owens. She attended St. Paul's High School, Past President of the BPOE Does Drove 231, member of Daughters of the Nile, and Past Queen Mother of the Overton Red Hat Society. She loved to work in the yard with flowers and was an avid camper, member of FMCA and Carolina Cruisers and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her husband, Garlon T. Johnson of Charleston, SC; sister, Clarice Chesser of Ravenel; children, Wanda Seel (Bubba) of Charleston, Walker Burbage (Priscilla) of Ravenel, Diane Evans (Jon) of Hollywood, Bruce Burbage (Suzanne) of Charleston, and Trudie Burbage of Mt. Pleasant; step daughter, Joy Lynn Bernier (Leo) of Edisto Island, nine grandchildren, Meg Capps (Trevor), Albert "Al" Seel III (Jennifer) both of Charleston, SC, Brenda Burbage of James Island, Lona Burbage of Raleigh, NC, Travis Evans (Jill) of Raleigh, NC, Bryan Burbage (Elyse) of Atlanta, GA, Andrew Burbage of Charleston, Amanda Burch of Atlanta, GA, Ryan Burch of Augusta, GA; two step grandchildren, Ernest Lawrence "Trey" Demaree III of Walterboro, SC, Summer Star Blocker of Yemassee, SC; eleven great-grandchildren, Ryan Capps, Lydia Capps, Parker Capps, Dawson Capps, Hailey Seel, Addison Seel, Olivia Grace Seel all of Charleston, Abigail Evans, Samantha Evans both of Raleigh, NC, Brylee Burbage of Atlanta, GA, Cayden Burch of Augusta, GA; six step great-grandchildren, Ryan Demaree, Kayden Demaree, Brodi Demaree, Miguel Demaree all of Walterboro, Alyass Blocker and Sophie Blocker all of Yemassee, SC.
